There are actually many different kinds of oriental carpets. There are Persian rugs, silk rugs, tribal rugs, antique rugs, Turkish rugs, Soomak rugs, and many, many more. All of these different types of carpets have their own unique style. There are actually some very simple steps that can be taken to ensure that the beauty of these custom carpets last a lifetime. The simplest step that can be taken is to ensure that no foreign objects are introduced to the rug. Keep pets away, remove shoes before walking on the carpet, and make sure no food or drink gets on the carpet. Also, heavy weights sitting on the carpet can ruin its appearance, so try and keep heavy pieces of furniture off the rug. It is best to wait until the carpet really needs to be cleaned before doing so. Over-cleaning can be bad for an expensive rug. Usually, this means that cleaning should be done no more than once a year.

First of all, how do you tell if your rug is dirty? The best way to tell is to pick up a corner and beat it with your hand. If more than a little dust flies out, then it probably needs to be cleaned. Another way to tell is to rub your hand against the carpet for several seconds. If you hand feels dirty afterwards, then your area rug needs to be cleaned. So when you do get ready to clean your oriental carpet, how should it be done?

There are several carpet treatment methods that can be used, from having a professional clean your rug, to sending it out to be cleaned, to cleaning it yourself. If you are worried about ruining the rug if you clean it yourself, then it is probably best to let a professional handle it. However, it can be rather simple to clean it yourself. To clean an area rug yourself, all you have to do is follow a few simple steps. First vacuum the rug really well on both sides. Then take a mild detergent solution and a soft brush.

Softly brush the solution into the rug in the direction of the nap. Try to use as little of the solution as possible, or else the rug will take forever to dry. Then rinse the rug with clear water, squeeze out the excess water and hang the rug to dry in the sun.
